High Quality Teaching and Learning
Waterhead Academy students receive a high-quality learning and teaching experience which has enabled them to leave the academy at the end of Year 11 with excellent GCSE outcomes. All our lessons follow a ‘5 phase lesson structure’ to ensure our students benefit from excellent teaching which develops independence, creativity, innovation and risk taking in order to deepen the knowledge, understanding and skills our students need to achieve their personal best. We encourage our students’ autonomy and explore ideas through a range of challenging activities and tasks designed to move learning forward at a fast pace which leads to high levels of student engagement, determination and enthusiasm. Every lesson builds towards our phase 4 ‘RED ZONE’ strategy. The main purpose of this challenging lesson aspect is to encourage our students to be reflective and imaginative and to experience exam-like conditions in every lesson, working independently to build resilience as well as improving their written stamina.
