Enterprise Challenge

On the 8th February The Princes Trust came into the Academy. They have initiated a nationwide schools enterprise challenge. Our round was dubbed the 'War of the Roses', as the participating Yorkshire schools and Lancashire schools are to battle it out. The winner of these rounds will go on to challenge a different county and so on until the final challenge; which will take place at Old Trafford football club.
The day started with an entrepreneurial quiz to settle the students in, after; they introduced a new piece of software that the Trust had developed, it was a game where the pupils could pick a particular business from a clothes shop, a fast-food restaurant or a food trailer. Pupils had to use budgeting skills, purchasing and sales skills, understand the best way to promote and market their businesses amongst other skills

Throughout the 'game', certain scenarios 'popped' up where the pupils had to make decisions as to whether they should go with a new suggestion or not. Ideas such as pay an internet influencer to advertise their products or if they would like to give money to charity, each of which would raise their profile or make them a more ethical business. This would improve their popularity or their reputation and further add to their score.

After this, each team spent some time preparing a formal presentation, each member of the team had to add their own information to the pitch.
Once fully prepared they had to present their business idea to a volunteer from the Princes trust, most of whom have owned their own businesses before, they were given a score and some useful feedback.

All in all it was a great day where both students, staff and the Princes Trust staff and volunteers enjoyed the experience.
The pupils drew some very important lessons from the day that they could hopefully use again in the future.

The top score so far from all schools has been £59,000, our best team score £45,000 so fingers crossed we make it to the next round!
