Waterhead Academy Class of 2024 Celebrate Exam Success

Waterhead Academy students celebrate exam success as they received their GCSE and vocational results in school this morning. Despite starting their secondary school experience at the onset of the COVID pandemic and the associated educational challenges they faced, there was a real buzz of excitement, as the vast majority secured a first-choice place at college, apprenticeship or employment.

More students were celebrating top GCSE grade 9s this summer, across a wide range of subjects including the Head Boy; Jahanzeb who is looking forward to studying A-Levels at Oldham Sixth Form.

Another exceptional performance was from Aroush who achieved 7 Grade 9s and 2 Grade 8s. Aroush is also looking forward to studying A-Levels and will be moving on to the Blue Coat School Sixth Form to study biology, chemistry, sociology and maths. Aroush throughout her time at Waterhead displayed the Waterhead core values of ambition and determination to ensure that she achieved the highest grades of everyone at Waterhead in the class of 2024.

There were a number of students who exceeded expectations, we are incredibly proud of and achieved incredible progress in their time at Waterhead including Amna, her grades included 4 Grade 9s, 1 Grade 8 and 2 Grade 7s; and Ali who achieved 6 Grade 7s; Umar achieved 2 grades higher in every subject against his targets, all three students are looking forward to joining Oldham Sixth Form to study A-Levels in September.

James Wilson, Principal at Waterhead Academy said: "With marking boundaries restored to their pre-pandemic levels, we are especially proud of the achievements and resilience of our year 11 students. Their outcomes are testament to their hard work, commitment and ability, as well as the academic, pastoral and careers support and guidance they have received during their time at Waterhead".

“Whilst students are a lot more than a set of grades, the qualifications they have achieved are a passport to the next phase of their education, training or employment. We are delighted that many will now go on to pursue their passions in a diverse range of fields – from Science, Economics and Business to, Sport and Fashion. We have every confidence that, whatever their next steps, they are all capable of achieving great things and we wish them all the very best for a successful and happy future in education and beyond".
